Live Projects

Opium Power’s 30 Megawatt Battery Energy Storage System at Taunton is one of the largest in the South West. This fully operational battery system represents a £12.5m investment by our partner South Somerset District Council, which is proud to support the proliferation of renewable energy generation and to reinforce and assist the Somerset power network.

The system has the capability to provide the latest Fast Acting Frequency Response service to the Grid. This entails reacting almost instantaneously to Grid demands for the import or export of it’s full power capacity (within milliseconds) whenever the balance of the distribution network frequency varies by just 0.1 Hz

In Build – 50MW

Opium Power is developing, funding and operating large scale battery storage projects connected directly to the UK's power distribution network. Adding to the UK battery infrastructure, Opium Power has 90 Megawatts now energised and operational.  These batteries bring valuable flexibility to the grid, enabling it to harness increasing volumes of renewable generation, as well [...]

We continue to build lasting relationships with partners that have significant investment aspirations in this sector.   We now have three new battery system projects totalling 150 Megawatts acquired, funded, and in build. These projects will be delivered and operational in Autumn 2021.

Identified Pipeline – 550MW

Opium Power has identified a portfolio of 600MW of Battery Storage projects for development in the next three years. We are currently talking with investment partners to fund the delivery of this significant portfolio. By April 2020, a total of 1000MW of Battery Storage was operational in the UK, but that figure is set [...]
